Introduction to negotiation

We negotiate every day, for instance, when we purchase services from suppliers, when we agree with friends what film to watch at the cinema, and when we want our teenage children to come home at a reasonable time after a party. We also negotiate in the workplace whether we realise it or not e.g. when we book our holiday or agree a pay rise. As an internal auditor, you negotiate throughout the engagement process.

In this course we clarify what negotiation is and provide some frameworks and techniques for carrying out negotiations. 

Who should do the course?

• Internal auditors who want to improve their negotiation skills in audit engagements.

What will I learn?

After completing this course, you will be able to:

• develop a strategy for planning and carrying out a negotiation; and
• apply interpersonal skills, such as listening and questioning, to manage the negotiation process.

What will I do?

The course comprises three topics and two quizzes. You will be recorded as having completed the course when you have worked through the topics and quizzes, and reached a minimum grade of 80% on each quiz. You can download your certificate of completion and a course summary when you have successfully completed the course.

You have three months to complete the course; however it shouldn’t take you more than two hours to do.

Technical requirements

The course is wholly online so you will need access to an internet-enabled device. You will need to enable pop-ups on your browser to view the three topics. Most of the material is written. However, there are some audios but if you don't have speakers or headphones, don't worry, just read the transcripts.
